Tax tokens of Louisiana, USA
Tokens, also known as fractional cents, were issued by some states, including
Louisiana, to help consumers avoid paying a full cent sales tax on small
purchases where the tax was less than 1 cent.
In Louisiana, a portion of this tax was used for public welfare purposes, for
which a special type of token was issued.
The State of Louisiana issued two types of brass and two types of aluminum tax
tokens. They are extremely common and cost less than a dollar each.
