Tax tokens of Arizona USA
Arizona tax tokens (as well as other US states) were small coins issued to make
it easier to pay sales tax when the tax rate was less than 1 cent. The use of
tax tokens in Arizona was authorized by Chapter 77 of the Laws of 1935. They
were phased out in the mid-1950s when the tax laws were revised and the portion
dealing with tax tokens was removed.
Arizona issued copper, aluminum, zinc, and brass tax tokens. They are all very
common and cost less than a dollar.
